In the face of the daunting challenge posed by the climate crisis, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. Issues like our global reliance on fossil fuels loom large, making individual efforts feel futile in comparison. However, change isn’t solely dependent on addressing these significant challenges or only on smaller-scale individual adjustments. Instead, it is about embracing a “both, and” approach. We need the big changes, the smaller changes, and more. This is where the concept of “spheres of impact” comes into play. Artists have unique areas where they can effect change in various ways, whether through creative practice, advocacy efforts, or material choices. By identifying and leveraging these spheres, artists can play a meaningful role in addressing the climate crisis and creating an environmentally responsible art world.
